What is the role of the governing body?

Letter from the Chair of Governors - 6/10/21 - please click on link to read

What is the role of the governing board

The Governing Body works as a ‘whole team’, meeting four times per year,  spaced throughout the school year, without any separate committees.  An agenda for each meeting will include all the tasks which the governing body is required to consider, and the governing body will ‘commission’ assignments or activities arising from the business of the meeting, which will be recorded in the minutes.

In addition to ‘commissioning’ activities or actions on their behalf, the governing body has delegated monitoring activities to ‘monitoring pairs’ or ‘individuals’. This applies to statutory functions and the priorities of the School Plan. Initially our priorities for this year will continue to be taken from the last Ofsted and section 48 inspections, plus extra-curricular activities. With the arrival of the new Head Teacher in September 2021 these priorities are likely to be changed throughout the coming year.

Please see the operational list below. In each case where a function has been delegated there is a statutory duty to report any action or decision to the governing body at the next meeting.

St. Augustine’s Catholic Primary School Governing Board.

St Augustine’s Governing Board operates the circle model structure of governance, meetings with the Full Governing Body (FGB) 4 times per year, together with the governor monitoring pairs/teams.

Governor monitoring includes the following four school improvement priorities.

  • SIP  Priority 1: Mission and values

  • SIP  Priority  2: Catholic life, prayer and liturgy

  • SIP  Priority  3: Curriculum intent, implementation and impact

  • SIP Priority 4: Curriculum leadership

  • SIP Priority 5: Health and wellbeing

  • SIP Priority 6: Governance

N.B. Due to the change of members of the FGB, the SIP allocation will be discussed before and at the next FGB meeting.
