Year 5 RE curriculum (Terms 5 and 6)

Term 5: Life of the Risen Jesus

In the first half of the term the children will know and understand that Jesus was raised to new life at Easter. They will know the story of the appearance of Jesus to Mary Magdala (John 20: 11-18).  We will learn that Jesus is present among us in different ways and know that we can pray in different ways. We will reflect on the meanings of the Rosary and the ‘Our Father’ and “The Glorious Mysteries” and how they help us to think about the Resurrection of Jesus.

You can help your child by:

  • Pointing out the signs and symbols in church, especially the Paschal candle which is a sign that Jesus is alive and within us.
  • To learn the ‘Our Father’ and reflect on its meaning.
  • To recognise the importance of making time for prayer each day.

Term 6: People of Other Faiths

In this term we will learn that we live in a country where people have different beliefs and different cultures. We will learn about some of the differences between Christianity and other faiths and know that the Catholic Church teaches about relations with other faiths. We will learn that all religions have special celebrations and times of prayer and know what we share in common with other faiths.

You can help your child by:

  • Finding out what your friends/neighbours believe.
  • Think about how we treat others with different beliefs from ours.
  • To research some of the festivals celebrated by other faiths.

This is the final theme for the school year. We hope that you have enjoyed working in partnership with us to enable your child to understand and reflect the true meanings of what it means to be part of the Catholic Church.
