Year 2 RE curriculum (Terms 5 and 6)

Term 5: Eastertide

In the first half of the term the children will hear that Jesus was raised to new life at Easter, by God the Father and that we too will rise from the dead, to have eternal life with God in heaven. After, the children will hear how Jesus, after rising from the dead, appeared to his disciples and how the Holy Spirit at Pentecost changed the disciples.

You can share this theme at home by:

  • Reading together and discussing the story ‘The road to Emmaus’. (Luke 24: 13-35)
  • Reading together and discussing the story about ‘St Thomas’. (John 20: 19-19)
  • Reading together and discussing the story of the Ascension.
  • Finding out about others who, like the disciples, have overcome their fear to achieve great things or people who have shown great courage and spirit.

Term 6: The Church is Born

In the final term the children will be learning more about what it means to be a Christian and the great joys and challenges it brings us. They will learn about the early Christian community and learn how St. Peter became a follower of Jesus. Finally we will discuss the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how God wants us to use them wisely to be good Christians.

At home you can help by:

  • Discussing things that we cannot see but we know are there (love, electricity, time).
  • Reading the story of Peter’s arrest and miraculous escape.
  • Discussing how unique your child is and that God has given us all talents and gifts.
  • Discussing how each one of us has been chosen to be a very important friend of Jesus.
  • Discussing the other gifts God has given us to help us to be good Christians.

Come and speak to us if there is anything you would like to discuss.
